TSI editor’s note: While this site is dedicated to silver’s all-important role as historical money and as a store of value, it is important for us to keep an eye on silver’s industrial role which seems to be constantly expanding. In a recent news release from the Silver Institute, the organization notes that Solar Panel energy production is expected to double by 2025, and of course silver is an important component of solar panels because it is the best conductor of electricity. Though mainstream news outlets often poo poo silver as an industrial metal, the fact that it has a large industrial component actually makes it more valuable. Unlike gold which is constantly preserved above ground, much of silver is used in products and then lost when they are thrown away.
