TSI editor’s note: Frank Shostak is an Associated Scholar of the Mises Institute which is the intellectual home of Austrian Economics, and he recently wrote an interesting article about the definition of inflation. The debate over this definition is about more than just semantics, and Shostak makes his position abundantly clear: “Understood properly, inflation is not a general increase in prices but is an increase in the money supply “out of thin air” which brings about the impoverishment of wealth generators.”
